Gallery Server Binary Pack Updated

By | 2017-04-12T09:40:45+00:00 April 12th, 2017|Announcements|0 Comments

Today we released an updated version of the Gallery Server Binary Pack. It contains the latest versions of three open source utilities that give you advanced gallery functionality such as audio/video transcoding and video, CR2, NEF, PDF, TIF and EPS image generation. They are ImageMagick 7.0.5, FFmpeg 3.2.4, and GhostScript 9.21. Before installing these utilities, first uninstall any existing installations of ImageMagick and GhostScript on your web server. Then download the Binary Pack and extract the contents of the zip file to an empty directory. Copy ffmpeg.exe to the bin directory of your Gallery Server web application. Install GhostScript by copying gs921w64.exe to your web server and then running it. If you are using a web hosting company, you likely aren’t allowed to run executables on the server. In this case, the best you can do is create a support ticket to ask them to do it. Install ImageMagick by copying ImageMagick-7.0.5-4-Q16-x64-dll.exe to your web server and [...]

Gallery Server Pro Binary Pack Updated

By | 2016-12-01T16:37:49+00:00 June 23rd, 2011|Announcements|1 Comment

The Gallery Server Pro Binary Pack adds additional functionality to your gallery, such as thumbnail extraction from videos, TXT, PDF, EPS, and PSD (Photoshop) files. The pack consists of three open source components – GhostScript, ImageMagick, and FFmpeg. They are free and easy to install. The only requirement is that your site must be running in full trust to take advantage of them. Today I updated the pack to include the latest version of each utility (GhostScript 9.02, ImageMagick 6.70, FFmpeg 0.8). Download it here. To update your existing components, copy the contents of the bin directory in the download to your bin directory, then run the GhostScript setup program. I don’t know if you need to uninstall the previous version of GhostScript first – as a safety precaution you may want to.

By | 2016-12-01T16:37:50+00:00 May 24th, 2011|Bugs|3 Comments

Today I discovered a bug that affects all galleries upgraded from a version earlier than 2.4.3. You are affected if all of the following are true: You have PDF files in your gallery. You originally installed GSP before version 2.4.3 and then upgraded to one of the later versions. Your site is running in Full Trust. You installed the Gallery Server Pro Binary Pack. In short, this is a bug in the SQL upgrade script that shipped in 2.4.3 and later. Fortunately, there is an easy fix. First, some background: In a default installation GSP creates a generic thumbnail image for PDF files, like this: When you install the Gallery Server Pro Binary Pack, GSP uses the ImageMagick and GhostScript utilities to generate a thumbnail image that is an actual preview of the PDF file: Today I discovered a bug, introduced in 2.4.3, where PDF files *always* get the generic [...]

After several tireless months, last Friday I released the newest version of Gallery Server Pro. There is a new set of options for controlling the look and feel of the gallery, support for multiple galleries, new HTML 5 and CSS capabilities, performance improvements, and dozens of bug fixes. Download it here. The source code is also available and can be opened in any version of Visual Studio 2005 or higher. The Microsoft Web Application Gallery version will be available in a few weeks. I also need to update the Admin Guide. Until then, I put together a QuickStart Guide. Side note: Since this version is nearly identical to the commercial DotNetNuke module, some of this blog post is copied from a previous entry. New features covered in this post: Auto slide show and other UI customizations Multiple galleries New concept: gallery administrator Video thumbnails Thumbnails from more file types More [...]
