Hi,
I was wondering if I could get some help with trying to add another text area under the share tab in the ribbon.
I have copied lines 4953 to 4956 in GalleryServer.resx and made another one with a different name and value but kept
the same comment. I made a new label for it in the ResourceController.cs. Made a string for it in Resource.cs. I
copied the embed text area in SeedController.cs and added another text area below it. In gallery.ts I copied strings,
show dialog, and gets. For right now I am just trying to get the text area to show up is there something I am missing.

I have also changed the gallery.css file to add new a new header and detail. In the share click function in bundle.js

when the Dialog is created I do not see my second header or text area in the inner text or inner html, I don’t know

what I am missing any help would be appreciated.

We don’t provide free customization help so I can’t really dig into this very far, but I can say a few things:

  • Unless you need multi-language capabilities, don’t worry about editing GalleryServer.resx, Resource.cs, or ResourceController.cs. Just add whatever English text you desire in the UI template editor. Way simpler.
  • You don’t need to edit SeedController.cs either, as that is only used to seed the DB the first time you install Gallery Server.
  • Don’t edit gallery.css, as it will be overwritten when you upgrade. Use the CSS editor in the ribbon toolbar.
  • Your goal should be to do your entire customization within the UI templates & the CSS editor. You can add JavaScript in a UI template, so it’s quite powerful. If you can succeed in making your changes there, you achieve the holy grail of customizing your installation while preserving that customization when you upgrade to a newer version.
  • If you need server-side changes, then it is possible you won’t be able to complete your customization using only the UI template and CSS editor.
